I changed 20 of these halogen downlights for a client for $40 each yesterday. The transformer on the left is completely melted and hence why these lights are one of the major causes of house fires in Australia.

 

Do yourself a favour and change them to LED’s. They’re brighter, 7 times more energy efficient and last for roughly 20 years.

 

Also ensure you always use a Licensed and insured Electrician, fines start at $25,000 for DIY electrical work and void your home insurance.

 

Some Electricians supply cheap downlights they buy online to save on costs. They have a “built in Transformer” which keeps the heat inside the light fitting and have a much higher failure rate.

 

My downlights have a 7 year parts and labour warranty and for all installs with 10+ lights I can offer a discount from $40 per light. Less than 10 from $45 per light.
